A Brief History
In 1980 we purchased an abandoned, poorly drained and overgrown dairy farm with the dream of establishing one of the very first pick-your-own strawberry farms in the National Capital Region. The land was drained and cleared of rocks, shrubs and trees, save for a grove of majestic red pines. We gave the farm it’s name from these trees and the township of Rideau in which it is located.
Today the farm has expanded both in size and the scope of operations. We feature many different varieties of strawberries, raspberries, and currants. Traditional favourites such as potatoes, green peppers, tomatoes, and broccoli have been joined by new and rediscovered crops like hot peppers, kale and haskap berries.
For over 30 years…
...Our fields have been maintained and our produce has been harvested by hand.
...Our farm has been a place for you to enjoy nature and experience rural life. Whether it’s a quick stop at our market or a day in the country with your family, everyone is welcome.
...Our focus has been on the quality of the food we grow. That is why you will find our fruits and vegetables served in over two dozen of the finest restaurants, bistros, gastropubs and cafés in the Ottawa area.
...Our produce has graced the tables of prime ministers and presidents, visiting dignitaries and royalty, and, most importantly, the tables of the people in our community.
...Our family has lived where we work. We eat everything out of our own backyard, knowing that nothing harmful has been added to our fields.
When we welcome you to Rideau Pines Farm, we welcome you to our home!
